As I was watching the new Superbowl commercial things began to look more clear than ever on how our  media has had the uncanny ability to bombard our minds with everything from advertisements to “reliable news casting”. Media has repeated the same advertisements over and over and over again until they have become “a reliable source” for people to depend on whether they realize it or not. Most  media on television today tells woman that they need makeup and the newest clothes in order to be beautiful. The news advertise is also very general; they highlight accidents and dramatic scenes only for one desired outcome, ratings. Who really cares about the GLEE kids entering a chevy contest? With the views Superbow ads get, why to use it the air time for a good cause? Maybe address important global issues, like Egypt. Media, in general, misguides people in what’s actually really important in life. They pretty much leave out, when there advertising, ways to be truly happy.Media has had more of an impact on my life then I’d like to admit. I feel at times, unable to escape it.  The only time I feel media truly has absolutely no effect on me is when I’m traveling.  When I travel I feel free, free from what’s suppose to make me look and feel “beautiful” “high fashion clothes”, make-up, “the newest shoes” and to be honest I truly don’t care about these ridiculous things when I’m walking the streets of London or Dublin, or looking down at the beautiful Colorado River beneath one of the wonders of the world. When I’m traveling I don’t care about media or its electronics at all. I think media has a way of confusing people with who they really are! Because they have a way of telling people who they are, and they buy into it! Our culture does not make people feel good about themselves

  1. I have never thought about it that way, but it is so true. Everything you see nowadays is just there to make you feel bad about yourself so that you think that you will better yourself by buying their products.

  2. these commercials are all about profit. glad to see that you take a non-consumerist stance when it comes to living life to the fullest enjoying the finer and more beautiful things in life, though.

  3. I think the commercials of ten years ago were more creative and witty.

The Marketing departments of the major companies were lazy this year, with the exception to Volkswagen (Star Wars is ALWAYS win) and Doritos.

  4. Media has such an impact on our minds and lifestyle, it makes you wonder.. how would our look today if media never existed?

  5. commercials really are all about profit. if you ask me no one is to blame, on average humans just have very short attention spans.

commercial businesses only do what they think will make them the most money.

  8. They use air time to produce crap like that so it diverts the general public away from the issues that are going on so people have to not worry about them, although I find it wrong for them to do that. It feels as if the government is trying to hide things from us.

  13. This is why I don't care to watch TV anymore :P If I really want to see something on TV, I may turn it on. But I always mute the commercials and pop open my laptop for a few minutes.

  15. You should watch Charlie Brookers shows. He does a great look into how the people who run tv, newspapers and the media try to manipulate us as the consumer. And it friggin funny as hell. Great post though, definately following this.

  16. The reasons this blog gave are also a big factor in convincing me to travel more often. But if you're not watching tv, everyone else is.

  17. I stopped watching tv a while back. If I want to watch a show, I'll watch it online commercial free so I can sit down, enjoy my show and not have to worry about being guilt tripped by a bunch of companies into buying their merchandise.

  18. Everything is a business and its all about money. If world issues had the money that Pepsi and Anheuser Busch then maybe we would see ads like that on the Superbowl, just my two cents.

  20. Interesting opinion. It's weird how we all have such a strong love/hate relationship with our technology. It looks like there's no end in sight.
